Stewardship

The refrain of a well-loved hymn, “We Plow the Fields and Scatter,” says, “All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above. We thank you, Lord, we thank you, Lord, for all your love.” This is the essence of a life of stewardship, recognizing all the gifts that come from God, taking care of them and thanking God for them.

Many times people equate conversations in the Church about stewardship as conversations about money. But that is only part of the conversation. It is true that God lays claim to our resources, but then that claim covers our lives and our time as well. These things are all good, and they all come from God.

God’s Work. Our Hands

Setting the Direction:
2008 Fall Leadership Gatherings

Congregational council presidents, rostered leaders and one additional lay leader from each of our 260+ congregations are invited to our 2008 Fall Leadership Gatherings beginning in August. Leaders will join Bishop David deFreese and fellow leaders from their area mission clusters for dinner and conversation on the theme: God’s Work. Our Hands. Setting the Direction.

“It will be a time to talk and learn and come together as the church,” said Pastor Lee Griess, Assistant to the Bishop for Stewardship. These yearly gatherings of rostered and congregational lay leaders are important to the life of our synod. Bishop deFreese and Bishop’s Assistant Lee Griess will present the program at each of these events which features discussion and interaction.

Be sure to send in your congregation’s RSVP to the attention of Karen Pickering.

You can download an information sheet with the full schedule.

“Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts: our selves, our time, and our possessions. Use us, and what we have gathered, in feeding the world with your love, through the one who gave himself for us, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.”–Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 107.
