Global Missions through the Nebraska Synod
Global Missions
The Nebraska Synod rejoices in its partnerships with other bodies in the Church. Because we are one through the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ, we truly are com+panions, meaning ones with whom we share bread.
Two of these bodies are found in other countries, while one is another synod in the United States.
Argentina
The Nebraska Synod and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Argentina (Web) became formal partners in 1993.
Tanzania
The deepening relationship between the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania and the Nebraska Synod have been growing in wide variety of ways since the two entered into a formal companion synod relationship in 1992.

During the past 15 years, people-to-people visits and exchanges created opportunities for the two church organizations to expand ministry opportunities in both countries. In 2004, Bishop Martin Shao was elected for a 10-year term to serve the Northern Diocese, following the 26 years of leadership by Bishop Erasto Kweka. Nebraska Synod has embraced ministry opportunities in the Northern Diocese, working with our companions there to provide ministry through schools, camps, medical and social services.
The Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania, one of our two companion synods, provides vital healthcare to the people of northern Tanzania. The Diocese’s health care ministry includes three hospitals and more than 20 dispensaries. The dispensaries (know as zahanati in Swahili) are often located in remote areas, typically the only accessible source for medical care. They provide a wide assortment of health care services such as births, vaccinations and health education. Congregations, individuals and groups can support the work of a dispensary through a financial commitment over the next two to four years, or by making a one-time gift to the program.
Through our Nebraska Synod’s partnership with Alegent Health, Global Ministry Associate Bob Kasworm serves in the Northern Diocese and his medical work includes oversight of the Adopt-a-Dispensary Program. Those making ongoing commitments to a dispensary will receive pictures, video and stories of the impact their generous gift is having.
California
The Nebraska Synod and the Pacifica Synod (Web) support one another’s ministries through prayer, dialogue and by sharing expertise and experiences.
