TO GOD BE THE GLORY

By by Jerry Johnson, Ex. Secretary Nebraska Synod LMM

TO GOD BE THE GLORY was the theme of the 19th Annual Lutheran Men in Mission Assembly at Fridhem/Funk on Feb. 11, 2006. 45 delegates plus 10 spouses attended the one-day assembly.

LMM President Dean Heairet presided at the meeting and was re-elected president for a second two year term. Pastor Howard Rasmussen was re-elected Pastoral Advisor and Jerry Johnson was re-elected Executive Secretary. A By-law change was approved to combine the office of Executive Secretary and treasurer.

A presentation were made by Brad Schmidt from Tabitha that provided an overview of the "Green House" project for care of the elderly. Updates were also presented by representatives of Mosaic, Campus ministries, Outdoor Ministries and the Nebraska Synod Women's Organization.

The keynote address was presented by Bishop David deFreese which included an Environmental Assessment of the Nebraska Synod, ELCA and a Bible study entitled "A Course in HERMENEUTICS: The Science of Interpreting Scripture"

Music during the day was provided by Yvonne Sjogren and Trudy Eckberg and lunch was served by the Women of Fridhem.

The 2006 budget was approved totaling $9,350 plus the challenge to raise $30,000 to continue the funding of seminary scholarships through the Loan & Grant Fund.

The men were also invited to participate in the NSWO Saved To Serve weekend in August at Oaks Indian Center in Oaks, Oklahoma. Two retreats are planned for 2006, one at Carol Joy Holling in May and one at Sullivan Hills in June.

Nebraska Synod LMM received 90 SERENDIPITY BIBLES to be presented to congregations wanting to start a men's bible study ministry.

Details on all these programs will be mailed out to all congregations in the Nebraska Synod plus displayed at the Synod Assembly the first week end in June in Kearney.
