Tanzania Special Offering
Grace, Gratitude, Giving: Living a Generous Life
The 2008 Assembly of the Nebraska Synod gathers around this theme at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island from May 30-June 1, 2008.The Assembly includes the celebration of the 15th anniversary of our companion synod relationship with the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.
A special offering will be received at the assembly to assist the Northern Diocese prepare future pastoral leaders and strengthen its ministry in East Africa. The Northern Diocese has a growing need for pastors to serve its 152 parishes as well as its hospitals, schools, and emerging mission areas.
You and your congregation are invited to generously support this special offering to support the growing ministry of our brothers and sisters in Christ in Tanzania. All congregations received a reproducible flier and bulletin insert to assist congregations and individuals to lift up the special offering in advance of our Assembly. You and your congregation are encouraged to prayerfully consider how you will respond to this invitation to give.
As congregations prepare for the assembly, they are encouraged to:
- Learn about the mission and ministry of the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.
- Pray for God’s blessing on this synod-wide effort to strengthen the ministry of the Northern Diocese by helping to raise up future pastoral leaders.
- Give as faithful partners with our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Northern Diocese who are already generously supporting this effort.
We give thanks to God for the ways in which our companion relationships open our eyes to the many challenges of the global context and call us to deepen our commitment to be true disciples of Christ as individuals and together as a worldwide Lutheran communion of faith.
