Buffalo Barbeque --- and Faith. A Story Behind The Story!

In the Assembly publicity, you have read about the “Buffalo Barbeque” at the Archway Monument –one of the Thursday (June 1) Pre-Assembly events.…"Large tents, beautiful grounds, music, native-American treats, areas for walking, groups for conversation—all will be a part of the ‘Archway Experience.”

…BUT, there is a wonderful ‘Story Behind the Story’! Lance Kuck and his wife, Tahma, will be supplying and transporting 300 pounds of prime buffalo meat for the “Buffalo Barbeque.” They are members of our St. Peter Lutheran Church, Bassett, Nebraska. They are buffalo producers, with a herd of 300 at their Laughing Water’s Ranch. They both have industrial engineering degrees and have also written software programs to help cattle and buffalo producers track their animals from birth to market.

Even more wonderful, they are new Christians with a passion to worship, learn, serve and grow! They recently helped host ten students from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, who were in our churches in Bassett and Atkinson for the ‘Rural Immersion’ experience. They have been active in their community; summer church camp and Tahma was just elected to the church council. Pastor Nancy Nyland says “they have been a blessing and are helping to bring in more young families.”

We thank God for so many good, committed people, who respond to help in so many ways to advance the Kingdom work. You will have a chance to ‘Meet them at the Archway’!

Bread for the Journey -- Cántalo ~ “Sing it Out”

It’s music that makes you want to sing adding harmony. It’s music that makes you want to sway, clap, dance. It’s music that stirs you, connecting you to people that love Jesus. It’s music, and rhythm that gives us an understanding of the whole church as we worship God, who holds the whole world his hands. That’s what Bread for the Journey’s global music does for your soul.

The first time I heard the music of Bread for the Journey I was hooked. I was attending the 1993 Triennial Women of the ELCA Convention in Washington D.C. with the Nebraska Synodical delegates. We never wanted to miss a gathering or worship experience for fear we might miss another opportunity to sing along with them. The 2006 Synod Assembly Planning Committee is very excited to have Bread for the Journey leading us in song and worship this June 1-3 at the Kearney Event Center.

Pastor Tony Machado, director of BFJ, and the whole musical group will welcome conversations throughout the whole Assembly sharing resources and encouraging congregation to develop special themes for missions in the Global Church. With Bread for the Journey as the Assembly’s musicians we will be, “Bound for Greater Things”.

I suggest that you, “be ready to let their music and the Spirit move ya.”
